Japon! [Mar. 17th, 2009|09:48 pm]

just got back from a one week trip to Osaka and Nagoya with Mari.
and it was a crazy amount of amazingness!

some photos taken here.
(warning. super image heavy.)

in-flight meal. (many more food photos to come!)

arrived in Osaka, Nanba area. hotel next to loooong shotengai (outdoor shopping street).

first dinner. Yakiniku at M.

karaoke next to the hotel. this room was library themed.

host-club sign. pretty~ creepy~~~

the area we stayed at, Nanba, was in the middle of night life central.
many Kyaba-Kura's (short for cabaret clubs), but its not the typical nightclub of entertainment or anything.
its where men go to drink and chat and flirt with hostesses.
and then there are Host-Clubs, where the ladies go to for male companionship.
a bit of a strange vibe throughout these streets.

~next day~

ka~ru ojisan.

met with mr. Aki from Zabou store. took us to yummy udon and ten-musu.

met with ms. Makiko Sugawa, an illustrator/artists, who draws cute and sensual girls and intricate lace.
she was a real sweet heart. :)

went to Dotonbori Gokuraku Shoten-gai(Dotonbori Paradise Shopping Area).
2 floors of oldtime retro japan reproduced.

mini musical show.

yummy food at night.

~next day~

walked around America-mura. yumyum takoyaki.
(Osaka is famous for their Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki.)

gacha gacha.

cute and quaint coffee shop and boutique. Doors.

sushi at night.

some shopping.

~next day~

heading to Nagoya, where Mari grew up.
yummy on-train obento lunch!

at Tokyo Hands. one of my favorite all around everything store!

they carry amazingly unique woods. ughghghggh.

mari saids this bear looks like me when grumpy. i must agree...

met with mari's mom and sis. ate awesomely delicious steak.

konbini (convenient store) binging.

~next day~

met with mari's sister again for lunch and shopping.

underground city/stores (Chikagai) in Nagoya. crazy amount of shopping down there.
rows and rows of stores and restaurants. pretty overwhelming.
but i was actually able to image what it would be like if people had to live underground.

met with Mari's longtime friend Hideo. ate at Yama-chan.
he was an amazingly funny and cheerful guy. glad to have partied with him.

food can be ordered on screen at the table! omg!

and then karaoked till 6am... haha...

shiina~ <3 <3 <3

~next day~

Moss Burger. but hung over. :(

headed back to Osaka, Umeda, since flight next day leaves from there.

@ Joyplois game center.

dinner at a 'church' themed restaurant. hehe

~next day~ last day.

udon lunch at the airport.

inflight meal. (dang we ate alot...)

other tidbits we acquired during the trip.

its always a strange and peculiar feeling when coming back from japan.
its hard to explain. i feel all mixed up.
but im glad i can go back in May.
there were plenty of things i would have wanted to do and see and acquire.

So many things! The food looks SO yummy. I definitely need to go back there with someone who knows Japan (rather than a tour). I want all the things in that anatomy capsule machine! And IS THAT THE PROFESSOR LAYTON AND THE CURIOUS VILLAGE MOVIE?!!! >_

I loved all the themed food places. And a hotdog for breakfast? I'm liking it.

fast food nation

In Japan, I eat at Mosburger way too much, I love that place. Like when I'm in California, I eat at In n Out. I'm relatively safe here on the east coast -- we have 5 guys, but that's not up to Mosburger or In n Out.

For a long time I've only dreamed that everything is cooler in Japan.
You just solidified that dream. Even the inflight meals are cooler, holy smokes!
